Hungry Souls provides nutritious meals to children in our community who need it most, helping them grow into who they’re meant to be and break generational cycles of scarcity and poverty.

Though our mission is simple, we have carefully crafted a model for addressing hunger that allows us to identify, reach, and empower the most vulnerable families with holistic resources they need to thrive.

We partner with local schools.

Teachers and support specialists at local schools are highly equipped to identify children struggling with hunger. We trust our school partners to enroll children in our program, ensuring food reaches the families needing it most. By arranging food distribution through the school, we create a reason for parents to visit their child’s school weekly, building relationships with support specialists and staying on top of their child’s educational progress.

We provide fresh, nutritious meals.

Growing kids need consistent, balanced nutrition to combat the long-term health effects of food insecurity. That’s why we provide all the ingredients for well-rounded meals, including fresh produce and protein. New families to the program receive a Crockpot, and every family receives a weekly menu and recipes so they can prepare and share meals together.

We target the times when children are most likely to be hungry.

For kids who rely on school lunch programs, weekends and school breaks are often the most vulnerable times for hunger. Each Thursday, we send home a cooler bag with perishable food and a plastic bag with non-perishable food for the entire weekend.

We feed the entire family.

If a child goes hungry, it’s safe to assume their entire family is food insecure. So, we don’t just send home enough food for the child; we make sure mom, dad, brothers, and sisters have enough to eat, too.

When families know they can count on food for the weekend, they are able to put their energy and focus into other important areas of their lives. For example, the families we work with have been able to save up for a deposit on an apartment, put gas in their vehicle to get their kids to school, or pay bills.

We measure long-term impact.

Food insecurity is about so much more than hunger. It impacts a child’s ability to get a quality education, which affects their future prospects and keeps them stuck in a cycle of poverty. Our goal isn’t just to provide a meal but to give children what they need to do well in school and break familial cycles of food insecurity and poverty.

When children have consistent nutrition, a solid education, and a support system of caring adults, it does so much more than fill bellies; it fuels futures.
